Did you know your hot tub is the perfect place to add some fitness to your life?

Science has shown that stretching and strengthening exercises are most effective, and safest, when your muscles are warm and pliable.

And that makes the heated water of your spa ideal for working out. Let’s take a look at the top five hot tub exercises you can do today in your hot tub.

5 Best Hot Tub Exercises That Are Great For Your Health

1. Jogging – Great For Your Cardiovascular Health

Did you know that jogging underwater burns far more calories than a traditional run? In fact, aqua jogging burns an extra three calories per minute compared to land jogging. As an added benefit, water removes the strain that’s typically associated with running on your joints.

To jog for exercise in your hot tub, stand in the center of the spa and run in place. Want to take it up a notch? Try incorporating different levels of intensity to maximize your calorie burn.

When you do jogging intervals of varying intensity, your body not only uses stored fat for energy, but you’ll continue burning calories hours later. This form of exercise, known as high-intensity interval training or HIIT, has been found to fire up the metabolism.

To incorporate HIIT into your routine, jog hard in short bursts followed by recovery periods of walking slowly.

2. Squats – Great For Your Lower Body

Yes, squats will elevate your heart rate and get your blood pumping, but they have the added benefit of strengthening and
toning your legs and backside.

Begin by standing in the middle of your spa with your feet shoulder width apart. Bend your knees and push your hips backward as if you were sitting down on a chair.

While doing this, raise your arms in front of you. Hold for a few seconds and then stand up again, bringing your arms back to your sides.

Squat as deeply as you’re able, making sure your knees don’t extend beyond your toes. Start with one set of 10 repetitions and add on additional sets as you get stronger.

3. Torso Twists – Great For Your Abdominals

This is a great exercise for someone who is new to fitness because it can be done sitting or standing. Start by crossing your arms over your chest to form the letter X, tighten your abs and slowly twist from side to side.

Keep your neck, jaw and shoulders relaxed and breathe deeply in time with your movements. This exercise works the waistline and abdominal muscles and can help increase core strength.

4. Clapping Exercises – Great For Your Upper Body

This is another great exercise for beginners, although it’s still effective no matter what your fitness level. That’s because the water creates resistance as you move, enabling you to tone your chest, biceps, triceps and shoulders.

To begin, extend your arms out from your sides, keeping your hands flat. Bring your arms in and clap your palms together while
keeping your shoulders and neck relaxed. Start slowly, working your way up to three sets of 20 repetitions.

5. Baby Stretch Exercises – Great For The Whole Body

This is a great stretch for your entire body, helping to ease tightness in your arms, back, hips, and legs. For this exercise, simply grasp the edge of your spa and, with feet planted on the floor and head down, push your hips back.

Keep your back flat and abdominals tight. Push backward until you can feel the stretch through your entire body and hold for 30 seconds.
